God Is More Than Able

In the heat of the battle, it is sometimes hard to see the achievements of our Heavenly Father’s omnipotence because of the smoke from the fighting around us. Though casualties may be laying all around us and things may seem to be going in a different way than what we would like, God is still on the throne! He is still more than able to handle our needs! May we reflect upon this idea as we consider this outline…

Title: “God Is More Than Able!”

Text: Ephesians 3:20-21Ephesians 3:20-21
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, 21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Introduction:

•    Webster’s Dictionary says the word “able” means:
o    Having skill
o    Strength to perform a task
o    Competent
o    Talented
o    Vigorous
o    When you speak of able bodied; it speaks of seamanship – a sound body or robust (having all around knowledge of seamanship)
o    The legal dictionary speaks of someone who is legally qualified
•    Whether you speak in common terms, Nautical terms, or Legal terms, God is able!

Proposition: There are four areas where we know God can work in our lives this year that we need to think about this morning!

I.    He Is Able To Work In Our Conflicts!

A.    Conflicts range in severity but God can give wisdom to respond the right way!

B.    There is not a conflict that God cannot work in:

i.    In our life as we struggle with sin.
ii.    In our realm of service.
iii.    In our testimony.

C.    Many times we see events or circumstances and we perceive that they are conflicts. Several times they are the hand of providence.

D.    If we would look back into the year 2010, we probably can see several conflicts God worked in.

E.    We should look forward to what He is going to do in 2011!

II.    He Is Able To Work In Our Relationships!

A.    Relationships are usually touchy subjects because we are dealing with at least one imperfect individual.

B.    God can work in any relationship!

C.    He can work in our relationship with him.

i.    Convicts us.
ii.    Comfort us.
iii.    Constrains us.

D.    He can work in our relationship with family members.

i.    Spouses
ii.    In laws
iii.    Parents
iv.    Children

E.    He can take the rockiest of relationships and make them smooth out into the sand on the sea shore.

III.    He Is Able To Work In Our Prayer Life!

A.    Our prayer life is vital to our effectiveness.

B.    God can take us and work with us so we can pray more.

C.    Often, in order for this to happen, He has to do something to get our attention because when things go well we forget Him!

D.    He can answer prayers that we thought were impossible.

E.    He has performed this in 2010 and He can do it in 2011!

IV.    He Is Able To Work In Our Workplace!

A.    The workplace is an arena that is not foreign to God’s working!

B.    Matthew was at his post at the receipt of custom, Elisha was plowing when God called him, the Phillipian jailor was saved while on the job.

C.    It was on my public jobs that I have learned the most about what it means to walk with God!

D.    There is no job site that God cannot work on!

E.    He has worked on 2010 and He can work in 2011!

Conclusion:

To The Sinner:

•    Be saved!

To The Christian:

•    Remember that our God is able!

9 Truths About Salvation That Every Pastor Needs To Proclaim

Preacher, Proclaim Salvation’s Story!

There are numerous topics that a preacher can speak about, but none so precious and important as the doctrine of salvation. What the Bible says about sin, the sinner, Heaven and Hell is very serious. The ramifications of one’s knowledge about these particular issues has eternal consequences. This post seeks to point out some essential precepts that must be proclaimed by God’s men concerning salvation!

The following outline was taken from a Sunday School Series taught by Pastor Roger Luiken of Liberty Baptist Church of Fremont, Nebraska.

Listed below are nine very important truths about salvation!

#1 – You Can Know That You Are Saved

(1 John 5:12-131 John 5:12-13
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

) “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”  (KJV)

Salvation is very important in the eyes of God and He has made it very plain that He wants people to know they have it!

#2 – A Minority Of People Are Truly Saved

(Matthew 7:13-14Matthew 7:13-14
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: strait: or, narrow 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Because: or, How

) “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”  (KJV)

Just because it is very clear that few get saved does not give us the right to give up on people.

#3 – Some People Will Deceive Themselves Into Thinking That They Are Saved

(Matthew 7:21-23Matthew 7:21-23
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

WP-Bible plugin
) “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”  (KJV)

These verses are some of the saddest ones in the Bible. In view of this, it is apparent that what people believe about how one is saved has a direct influence upon their soul’s destination. This is a fearful passage! One must remember that salvation is built upon Christ and not works!

#4 – There Will Be Carnal Christians… This Is A Reality

(1 Corinthians 3:1-31 Corinthians 3:1-3
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

3 1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. 3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? divisions: or, factions as men: Gr. according to man?

WP-Bible plugin
) “And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?”  (KJV)

We must remember that some, who get saved, will not grow up in Christ. If the Apostle Paul had this problem, then what does that say for us?

#5 – Sometimes It Is Hard To Distinguish Between The Saved And The Lost

(2 Peter 2:4-82 Peter 2:4-8
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; 5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; 6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; 7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: 8

WP-Bible plugin
) “For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)”  (KJV)

It is not hard to grasp the fact that Noah was a saved man in the Bible. Lot, however, is a horse of a different color. If it were not for the verses shown above, nobody would say that Lot was saved. Thus we can conclude that some people… well… only God knows they are saved!

#6 – Every Christian Should Be Growing

(2 Peter 3:16-182 Peter 3:16-18
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. 17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. 18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

WP-Bible plugin
) “As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”  (KJV)

Everyone, who is saved, should be following RIGHT teaching. They should be GROWING in Christ!

#7 – There Is An Important Relationship Between Faith And Works

What salvation looks like before you get saved…

(Ephesians 2:8-10Ephesians 2:8-10
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. ordained: or, prepared

What salvation looks like after you are saved…

(James 2:14-20James 2:14-20
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. alone: Gr. by itself 18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. without: some copies read, by 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

WP-Bible plugin
) “What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?”  (KJV)

Many think the scriptures contradict each other here in these two passages, but we must understand that faith in Jesus’ shed blood alone is what saves a person. That same individual, who is truly saved, will produce works… to some degree!

#8 – You Cannot Lose Your Salvation

(John 3:36John 3:36
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

WP-Bible plugin
) “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”  (KJV)

There are numerous verse that prove this truth about salvation. This one is very clear!

#9 – There Will Be Rewards At The Judgment Seat Of Christ

(Romans 14:12Romans 14:12
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

WP-Bible plugin
) “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.”  (KJV)

(1 Corinthians 3:11-151 Corinthians 3:11-15
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. it shall be: Gr. it is 14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

) “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”  (KJV)

(2 Corinthians 5:6-102 Corinthians 5:6-10
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 7 8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. labour: or, endeavour 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

WP-Bible plugin
) “Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”  (KJV)

Every saved person will be rewarded for their good works. These same works are not what saves them. These people perform good works because they are saved!

Conclusion

So much can be said about salvation. Ask 100 people how to get to Heaven and you will get 102 different answers. The fact of the matter is that we must stick with the Bible and what it says about the subject of salvation. Preacher, Proclaim It!

Good Pastors And Preachers Know The Difference Between Taunting And Preaching

From the pulpit, to video/audio posts on the internet, to the street corner and beyond, many preachers and pastors seek to spread the news about Jesus Christ! Sincere, passionate, courageous, AND __________ (you fill in the blank) these men continue this work without reservation of mind. In the midst of such a noble endeavor, a question has been forced upon me. “Is it possible to do something right and go about it the wrong way?” In reference to a specific situation I recently encountered, I write this post and make the following statement: Good pastors and preachers KNOW the difference between taunting and preaching!

Is God Honored By My Preaching?

For a while now, I have be thinking about the privilege of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His Divinely Inspired Word. What an honor it is that God would want ME to preach for HIM! I wonder though… “Is God honored by my preaching?” Every preacher must ask himself that question from time to time. If he does not, then he is likely to be doing what he loves to do, but causing more harm than good. Nobody wants to be guilty of this. NOBODY!

Am I Detracting From The Gospel?

Proclaiming the gospel under: the promise from God that His Word will not return void (Isaiah 55:11Isaiah 55:11
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

WP-Bible plugin
); the fact that the gospel has power (Romans 1:16Romans 1:16
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

WP-Bible plugin
); the plain command to preach it (Isaiah 58:1Isaiah 58:1
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

58 1 Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins. aloud: Heb. with the throat

WP-Bible plugin
; 2 Timothy 4:22 Timothy 4:2
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

WP-Bible plugin
); and a plethora of Biblical examples of leather-lunged prophets who dared to herald forth God’s message, many have taken refuge to condone and excuse their taunts, rants, and mean spirits. While the above scriptural references are all true and believed by this preacher, they are not to be used to grant a license for non-Biblical methodology. It is entirely possible to preach God’s Word without taunting people and acting like a 6 year old on a playground. You can preach BOLDLY and DIRECTLY without detracting the gospel.

Why Do Some Pastors And Preachers, At Times, Taunt Their Audience?

I do not know for sure why people do this sometimes. It might be from anger and they are lashing out. It could be from insecurity issues. Publicity stunts for a camera shot are certainly not out of the question. I feel that it is mostly from personality quirks left unchecked. Whatever the reason, it is FLESH, FLESH, FLESH! God the Holy Ghost CAN use this type preaching because He is God. After all, He used a donkey to reach a man in the Old Testament. Though God CAN use taunts and tirades to reach people, it is certainly not the normal way God worked as seen in the Biblical pattern.

Is Street Preaching A Breeding Ground For This Behavior?

Street preaching is a venue that is Biblical and needed more and more in this country (USA). I am for it 1,000,000 percent! It is difficult to do and not for the faint of heart. Due to the audience you, many times, have when street preaching, there is a tendency to be reactionary. Getting off script, so to speak, results in dialogue that was not intended or would not normally be engaged in. Most of the street preachers in this country, who are preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, do what needs to be done in a Biblical way, and are not kooks nor cultists. It is a severe minority, who use this great method of evangelism to pontificate, that I feel gives a bad name for everyone else.

Conclusion

Anytime you criticize, constructively or non-constructively, someone’s motives and/or methods you will run the risk of being taken the wrong way. In view of this fact, I want to be clearly understood. Giving the benefit of the doubt, and operating under the assumption that pastors and preachers who taunt, at times, while they are preaching are sincere and genuine, I wholeheartedly applaud their desire to serve the Lord Jesus Christ. I am, however, very much opposed to their taunts. Let us be CLEAR, to my knowledge, in the King James Bible I possess, I do not recall an incident where Jesus Christ ever, I repeat, EVER taunted anyone! There is absolutely NOBiblical justification for taunting while preaching from the Holy Word of God!
