Pastor, Have You Heard About Charlotte Matthews

Most of us do not think of the United Kingdom as a needy mission field. The truth, however, is that it IS a place that is in desperate need of a spiritual awakening. Even though we read of great revivals and mighty works, wrought by God’s own hand, in this part of the world from our history books, there is a greater need of laborers now more than ever!

Charlotte Matthews is one such individual who has given her life to further the cause of Christ and to “stand in the gap” for the United Kingdom. This young lady is excited about serving Christ! Learn more about her in this post and pray for her situation.

In Her Own Words…

Hello Pastor,

My name is Charlotte Mathews.  I am a Missionary with Macedonia World Baptist Missions, sent out of Liberty Baptist Church in Stockbridge, Georgia to the United Kingdom.

I had the great privilege of growing up in a Christian home and I accepted Christ as my personal Saviour when I was twelve years old. A year later, I surrendered my life to Full‐Time Christian Service and became involved in the ministry of my local Church.

It was during this time that I went on my first Mission Trip with my Church Youth Group. This trip planted a burden in my heart that continued to grow throughout the years, and in 2002, during another Youth Mission Trip, the Lord began leading me to the United Kingdom as a Missionary.

After completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology with Proficiencies in Missions and Music Education, and a Master’s Degree in Religious Education (both from Atlanta Baptist College), the Lord allowed me the opportunity to take a second Mission Trip to the UK in the Summer of 2009. It was following this trip, during the annual Faith Promise Missions Conference at my home church, that the Lord granted the desire of my heart by calling me to be a Missionary to the people of the United Kingdom.

The United Kingdom is a beautiful land with a rich history, but it is also a place of deep Spiritual need.  With nearly 62 million people calling the UK their home, the few churches that are scattered through the UK have very little chance of truly reaching that land with the Gospel unless more people would be willing to make themselves available to God to help missionaries and church planters as they seek to tell those around them about the Saviour and to train the British people to do the same.

The Lord has called me to be a help to church planting missionaries in the areas of music, teaching, soul-winning and discipleship, as well as any other facets of ministry that the Lord would choose to use me for.  I am currently on deputation and would love to have the opportunity to come to your church to present the work that God has laid on my heart.  If I may be of service to you in any way, or if you would consider allowing me to be a part of your missions program please contact me at [email protected].  If you would be willing to pray for me as I am on deputation and after I reach the field, please sign up for my Prayer Update letters on my website (http://aheartforrevival.weebly.com/prayer-letters.html)
Thank you for your dedication to missions!

United Kingdom Statistics:

– Land mass 94600 square miles
– Population around 62 million
– Less than 7% attend church anywhere
– 20% of the population is under age 18
– 10% of the population is between age 18 and 25
– 7 of every 10 births are to Muslim families
– Nearly half the population describes themselves as atheist, pagan or no religion
– The fastest growing religions in the UK are atheism, witchcraft and Islam
– Over half of British young people have never heard of the King James Bible
– Over two thirds of Londoners do not own a Bible

Pastor, Meet Missionary Scott Allen

A few days ago, I was able to spend some time with a fabulous missionary couple serving with Macedonia World Baptist Missions going to the country of Brazil, South America. The Allen family were such an encouragement to me and my family. We met these people a few years ago in a Missions Conference in Georgia. They have not changed a bit!

While Brother Scott, his wife Donna and his daughters were in our area, I caught them off guard a bit and challenged them to make a few videos with me. The video below is the first one I made with Brother Scott. I interviewed him on a couple of things. He shared a character trait of his father he wanted to mimic in ministry. We also conversed about blessings and lessons of the ministry of deputation.

It is our desire that this video would speak to your heart. I hope that you will see and hear something that would cause you to pray for this family!

565164: Lectures to My Students Lectures to My Students

By C.H. Spurgeon / Hendrickson Publishers

Though best remembered as the most popular preacher of the Victorian era, C. H. Spurgeon was also founder and president of the Pastors College in London. He supervised the training of over 800 students, presided at an annual conference for ministers, and, on Friday afternoons, delivered regular lectures on every aspect of pulpit ministry.

Featuring such gems as “The Ministers Fainting Fits” “Posture, Action, Gesture, etc.” and “On the Choice of a Text,” this unabridged edition of 28 of Spurgeons classroom discourses on homiletics overflows with practical wisdom, discerning wit, and sage advice. Covering the call, open-air preaching, ordinary conversations, using illustrations, and conduct outside the church, Spurgeons words are as rich and nourishing for pastors and students today as they were more than a century ago.

CHAPTERS INCLUDE

  • The Ministers Self-Watch
  • Our Public Prayer
  • On Spiritualizing
  • The Blind Eye and the Deaf Ear
  • On Conversion as Our Aim
  • The Sciences as Sources of Illustration
  • An excellent and useful gift for pastors and seminary students, church history enthusiasts, and even collectors and readers of classic Victorian literature.

Pastor, Have You Heard About Lamar Whittemore

In late September, of 2006, myself and two other men were holding a tent revival in Williston, North Dakota. During the meeting, I brought up the fact that Watertown, South Dakota needed a solid Independent Baptist Church. We began to pray and make plans to hold a series of meetings later on the next year. Lamar Whittemore’s name was brought up in the conversation as I recall. (I still am uncovering the details of how God has put this together, but God does work in mysterious ways, doesn’t He?) The meeting was held as scheduled. Lamar preached in the meeting and later was able to move up to Watertown! TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

Bio:

Brother Lamar, and his wife Chastity are a tremendous blessing to be around. Lamar is the pastor of Harvest Baptist Church in Watertown, SD. They are sent from Eastside Baptist Church of Greeneville, TN and are serving with Anchor Baptist Missions International.

In His Own Words…
“My name is Lamar Whittemore, and my wife is Chastity.  I was reared under some of the greatest and godliest parents anyone could ever have.  The Lord saved me at the age of six, and answered the call to preach at the age of fourteen.  My wife was reared by a godly Mom, and sat under some great preaching as a member of Roanoke Baptist Church in Liberty, South Carolina.  She was saved at the age of fourteen.  God brought us together, and we were married in July of 1995.  I was privileged to work on the mission field between high school and college.  I attended college at Tabernacle Baptist College in Greenville, South Carolina; and graduated from there in 1996.  After college I was the youth director at Tabernacle and worked on the radio.
The Lord opened the door for me to pastor United Baptist Church in Greeneville, TN in December of 1999.  While pastoring, I was greatly blessed to continue my education, and graduate from Crown College in Powell, TN in 2006.  We resigned the pastorate in September of 2006.  In a way that only God could, He miraculously had someone mention South Dakota to me the very night I resigned United Baptist Church.  I honestly had no intentions to pray about the need in South Dakota.  But, the Holy Spirit would wake me up in the middle of the night praying for Watertown, South Dakota.  After receiving advice to take a survey trip, we realized Watertown was where God wanted us.  We did deputation for a year and a half, and moved to Watertown in May of 2008.  We began having church in a couple’s home the weekend we came to town.  After seven months in their home, we started meeting at the Watertown Event Center on January 4th, 2009.  Throughout these two years God has shown Himself mighty and true!  It’s hard to believe that we will be starting to have services in a church building January 2nd, 2011.  To God Be The Glory!!!
God is definitely working here in Watertown.  We are running between thirty-five and fourty in church.  We also have a children’s ministry on Thursday nights.  Our high number has been forty-three children.  We are praying God continues to work miracles, touch hearts, save souls, put homes back together, and bring glory to Himself.  With our moving into a building, there are many needs.  We need more songbooks, a church sign, tables and chairs to put in Sunday School Classrooms, sound system, etc.  But, more than anything, we need laborers for the field.  Please pray God will help us reach Watertown, the Great Plains States, and the World for His glory!  I honestly believe God can reach the world from Watertown!!!”
Lamar’s Burden… There are approximately twenty-five thousand people in Watertown with forty-eight thousand people in Codington County.  Our prayer is that God would send laborers to work here, and they can go out into smaller towns to reach them with the Gospel.

Conclusion:

I fully endorse Lamar and Chastity Whittemore. He has been a good friend and I know that he loves the Lord! Pastors, I ask two things from you regarding Brother Whittemore. First, please give him a call or email him to let him know that you read this post about him. Encourage this brother… pray with Him! Secondly, ask the Lord to provide him with more monetary support for his endeavors! I am sure he would be grateful for any prayers and financial support that YOUcould offer him.
