The Importance Of Making Wise Decisions As A Pastor

The gut wrenching feeling you get the moment you make a poor decision is awful. It is almost like falling down a set of stairs! What’s worse is the insurmountable pride that keeps you from rectifying the the situation immediately. I have been there, done that, and have the scars tattooed upon my soul as a result. Wisdom just seems to escape me sometimes!

Every pastor knows that he will have a lot to give account for when he stands before the judgment seat of Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:10) Though mere mortals, pastors have to be extra careful when making decisions. Many times the ones we make have larger consequences than realized initially.

Listed below are 5 questions to ask yourself before making decisions…

#1 – Is what I am about to do what CHRIST would like me to do?

#2 – Is what I am about to do in absolute agreement with the Word of God?

#3 – Is what I am about to do being done with a godly motive?

#4 – Is what I am about to do something I can live with?

#5 – Is what I am about to do something that will build up or edify God’s people?

Conclusion:

While there are many other thought provoking questions you can ask yourself when making decisions, the list above is a good one to start with! Jesus warned about campaigning without counting the cost. (Luke 14:28) May each spiritual leader remember that when we make decisions, they affect more than just us. Every decision is important and must be made with surgical care!
